Because we received assistance which fit the different situations specific to Aachen, our stay became a very fulfilling one. With their help, setting up our new life was completed in a short period of time, allowing me to immediately get started on my research. Their advice for hosting my child’s birthday party was extremely helpful, as we were at a loss at how to arrange it. In the last year of our stay, our children were invited to more than 10 of their friends’ birthday parties. We are still in touch with many German families living in Aachen, even after moving back to Japan.
It is very challenging for a foreigner to find himself a home in Germany. Since there are quite a number of local registrations and applications to be done after arriving to Germany, it was a huge relief to have the house search already done while we were still in Japan.
With their support, I was able to start my studies and new life abroad very smoothly. Since finding a kindergarten for my child would have been extremely difficult for a non-German speaker like me, I was especially thankful for their help with the search. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, I could not travel to Germany before my move in order to search for an apartment.
