International and vibrant district
The eastern part of the city, the former center of industrial development in Aachen, boasts a lively, multi-cultural atmosphere. Besides all the usual shopping facilities you come to expect, you’ll also find a multitude of Turkish, Arabian, Russian, and Asian shops and grocery stores. The streets are lined with restaurants where you can enjoy international cuisines, and there is the vast Kennedypark and an indoor swimming pool. The area is particularly well connected for outbound traffic, with the A544 offering immediate access to the highways to Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Brussels. From Rothe Erde train station it takes a mere 3 minutes’ ride to the central station of Aachen, also offering direct connections to all the major cities of NRW. The neighborhood has several elementary and high schools and is also home to the municipal music school. Numerous notable companies like Phillips, Continental, and Grünenthal are located towards the outskirts of the area.
